From euronews, the main international news channel in Europe, we are proud to announce our latest adventure to reach the entire continent with a new independent channel in Romania.
Euronews Romania (Euronews România) is a subsidiary of our brand with headquarters in Lyon. It will reach millions of homes and broadcast local, regional, national and international news on television and digital platforms in the Romanian language.
It is carried out in association with the Universitatea Politehnica din București (UPB) and is part of a diversification strategy with other Euronews affiliate launches in the last two years: Euronews Albania and Euronews Georgia.
The launch of Euronews Serbia is scheduled for shortly.
Euronews România is the first brand subsidiary to be launched within the European Union. The channel will have its own team of journalists and correspondents throughout Romania, but also in Brussels. All of them will maintain the values of independence and impartiality of Euronews and its editorial line ‘All Views’, all points of view.
It will also contribute to the diversity of the overall editorial wealth of the company, whose DNA has always been and will always be multilingual and multicultural. In return, Euronews Romania will benefit from Euronews’ global architecture of editorial and technical knowledge and resources to bring a unique international perspective to the Romanian media market.
In a statement, Euronews CEO Michael Peters said he was “very proud” of the deal and announced the “ambitious project” ahead of him. “Romania has a very competitive media market with several existing news channels. But we believe that Euronews Romania will be a unique offering that is lacking in the national media landscape today.
“Uncompromising impartial, rooted in our European DNA, Euronews has always offered a different perspective on the news. As Euronews has always done, Euronews Romania will, with objectivity, balance and precision, offer a strong European perspective on the news.”
Mihnea Costoiu, Rector of the UPB, said: “We believe that by providing quality journalism and impartial information to an audience that needs it more than ever, Euronews România is not only an achievement of the media, but also an initiative Through Euronews România, we join a European family recognized for its quality journalism. We thank our partners for their trust and we welcome them to the UPB community. “
Emissions are scheduled to start in late 2021.
